Inmate texting apps are a great way to stay in contact with a loved one or friend who is currently behind bars. These apps are specially designed to meet prison regulations and permit family members and friends to send and receive messages and photos, eCards, video calls, as well as money to their trust account in prison. In addition to these messaging apps, there are several federal inmate apps that offer additional services such as video visitation and phone calls.
JPay lets, for instance, family and friends to send money directly into an inmate’s trust account. It also allows videos, emails, photos and electronic cards. It also lets them make personalized postcards featuring personal photos. It's a safer, more secure alternative to postal mail.
Another popular texting app for prisoners is GettingOut. It offers "simple reliable, efficient communication" between inmates and their loved ones. The app, available in certain correctional facilities, allows inmates to upload pictures and text their family and friends on their tablets. It costs inmates $0.25 per message, and loved ones pay for the data used to access their messages text inmate (but not for explicit pictures).
